IMPALED - The Dead Shall Dead Remain

One look at that cover, with all the entrails, blood, guts and gross black shit, and you know it's gonna sound like Carcass. The only reason to put it on is to figure out what era Carcass they're influenced by the most and how the production sounds. Hell, these guys even name their guitar solos just like the gore gods did years back. So, after about a song or so you can tell it's Necroticism-era Carcass, and it's done well too, right down to the dark gory/thesaurus-core/twisted humor lyrics, better than any other band I've come across yet in this genre ("gore metal", for those keeping up to date with the terminology) except for the big "C" themselves. The production sounds surprisingly good and makes this a fairly listenable treat for the more deranged metaller. Sounds fairly identical to Exhumed's Gore Metal CD, which makes sense, seeing as how a couple of the sickos from Exhumed are in Impaled. You gotta respect people that make music so sick and heavy, so inaccessible and well-executed. The problem is Carcass have already put out a couple of amazing albums of this ilk, and no one seems to be trying (or perhaps and more likely, able) to top them, instead just kinda re-creating them. If your copy of Necroticism has worn out and you can't get a hold of a new copy, give this a whirl, it might tickle your pickle just as well. Or, to speak the language of the discerning gore metaller, ferment your simmering brine. Either way.
