IMPLODE - Terra Pericolosa - I Of Everything, Chapter II

Swedish melodic death metal band, Implode, has been doing things in bunches over the years. And they seem to be doing it the right way too, by releasing a demo, then their debut full length in 2011, followed by two more EPs. They have resently resurfaced with their latest release, a three-song EP, Terra Pericolosa — I Of Everything, Chapter II. I Of Everything is divided into four chapters, which will be released in digital format only. Each album chapter has a separate theme that as a whole, will all tie together. Chapter I, Aeon Clockwork, was released last year, with chapters III and IV to follow this year. This will all lead to the band’s ultimate goal: to release the full album, including all four chapters, 13 songs in all. Implode unleash their brand of furious and technical thrash/death metal, but with a little twist. They don’t kowtow to the typical Swedish/Gothenburg death metal sound, as they play with more groove and possess more thrashy riffs. The band also employ some black metal tremolo picking techniques, decorated with blastbeats. The raspy, shouted vocals of Johan Ejerblom are juxtaposed with melodic and progressive instrumental elements. Drummer Henrik Axelsson also plays with The Crown and certainly knows what he’s doing behind the kit and is well-schooled in playing this style of music. The three tracks are aggressive and inviting, while the band exudes enthusiasm and energy. It’s not a bad ten minute encounter, except I will be anxious in hearing the album as a whole once the two final chapters are completed.
