INGESTED - The Architect Of Extinction

The Architect Of Extinction is the fourth release since 2009 from this Manchester purveyor of pure death, and that bout of productivity has only sharpened Ingested's edges for maximum impact. And there lies the secret to this record's listenability: it's a well-written and meticulously executed effort that puts an emphasis on trying to stay memorable while also being encased in some of the best death metal production we've heard over the last five years. In an era of soulless, ultra-ProTooled nothingness, The Architect Of Extinction's production manages to retain both warmth and precision in a sound that should be required listening (especially the drums) for anyone aspiring to be the next great extreme metal producer. That said, this is still, at times, a record that threatens to tread only on terrain that's been done, and done again, in death metal circles, but diverse moments like impressive instrumental "Penance" or album highlights "I, Despoiler" and "A Nightmare Incarnate" clasp their nails into the dirt and raise this record above the median's line.
