ION DISSONANCE - Cursed

Ion Dissonance’s debut, Breathing Is Irrelevant, was one of the most effective records of the ‘00s, the Montreal band shocking the system with its brand of frothing tech-core. Though follow-up Solace continued the grand tradition, ‘07’s Minus The Herd was a mediocre effort that brought Ion Dissonance out of the exceptional and into the ordinary, joining the herd it paradoxically sought to destroy. Cursed was, therefore, met with pre-release scepticism but, thankfully, Ion Dissonance has written a record that rivals even Breathing Is Irrelevant, the band executing a ferocious collection of disillusionment, cynicism and don’t-give-a-fuck candour. Down-tuning the guitars to Meshuggah levels for added malice, Ion Dissonance has used that malevolence to its advantage and surrounded it with the tech’d-out moments it was once known for. A surprising return to form for a band that is now back in an upward trajectory after several years of uncertainty.
