KILLER - Monsters Of Rock

Original '80s Belgium metal trio (well, at least the singer/guitarist) given a new lease on life. The music is comprised of gritty guitars and vocals in the raspy Lemmy/Chris Boltendahl (Grave Digger) mode, but with hugely infectious (some might say killer) hooks. However, the ballad "Danger Zone" is unable to hide Shorty's (aka Paul Van Kamp) vocal limitations. "Shotgun Symphony" takes a more modern (D-tuned) approach, but with the same great results, courtesy, in part, to a clean, old school solo ripping through its core.

In fact, most of the 15 tunes include a similar six-string showcase, something missing from many current acts. A single, screaming guitar kicks off an otherwise punky "No Way Out". "Back To The Roots" name checks classic metal artists within the lyrics. A chugging, proto-thrash riff forms the backbone of "Firestorm", while the simplistic "Deaf Blind And Dumb" and "The Reactor" are Motorhead inspired speedsters. On a completely different tip, there's the bluesy "Making Magic", a 70s hard rocker. Band is currently making European festival appearances. Great place for the uninitiated to investigate, before delving into the (more expensive to secure) history.
