KING PARROT - Dead Set

Australian punk-grinders King Parrot ride the hysteria here, the band coming across like a frantic, high-pitched version of Vulgar Pigeons or Benumb, but with the grinding definitely more punk than blasting, the production chunky and mighty (as is Phil Anselmo's style, here the man producing and releasing the album). Love the energy levels here, as they're just through the roof entirely, the band racing down the highway on adrenaline alone, bringing to mind frantic OG crossover bands moreso than any modern grind or punk groups.

I like it when they go low and slow, as on "Home Is Where The Gutter Is", the breathing room providing a nice mid-album break, and on the closing title track, a powerful way to end the album. I'm not entirely convinced on a lot of replay action happening over time, but the band does the stress-inducing thing they do well here, concept of memorable songs clearly not being high on their priority list, concept of caring about my thoughts about the matter also not being high on their priority list. Dead Set is a fun listen regardless, those squawking vocals both piercing and highly enjoyable, the album nothing if not pure energy.
