KORPIKLAANI - Spirit Of The Forest

It's not often that something comes around that smacks you in the head and makes you take note. This is one of those releases. Ever wonder what would happen if Blind Guardian were to disappear into the forest to a medieval musical meeting at a pub with Blackmore's Night? Circa 1400, pint in hand, Celtic fiddle playing and damned if the lads don't invent heavy metal. Sounds weird, and impossible to pigeonhole, but man does this concept ever work. Apparently, these Finns are actual dudes who live somewhere in the forest and have evolved out of the Finnish metal band Shaman. Heavy guitars, gruff vocals and an onslaught of exotic instruments, including the ever-present fiddle make for an irresistible combination. A classic beer-drinkin' record to be sure, kinda like the Dropkick Murphys gone metal. Terrific stuff.
