KORPSE - Unethical

Coming across a killer slam band is like finding a hatchet in a mountain of mutilated corpses. If you are anything like me, you have likely spent hours on YouTube crawling through oceans of bile, entrails, and smoldering, stinking shit just to find that blood and pubic hair-encrusted hatchet. Well, all you sick fuks can stop your gore-infused search, 'cause straight outta the Netherlands comes the aptly-named Korpse to fill your human flesh-filled gullets! I gotta tell ya, this was the first time - in a very long time - that my jaw literally hit the floor when it comes to this stuff.

Let me explain. So, those in the know are well aware that the slam metal rule book is a very strict one, with most bands adhering to the same guidelines - slow or mid-tempo sections built on chromatic, palm-muted riffs - the so called "slams" that the sub-genre was built upon (not unlike breakdowns found in metalcore). Korpse literally tosses the rule-book aside, laying down a whole new set of rules - rules that were written twenty-five years earlier by extreme metal legends, Cryptopsy. This makes things interesting, to say the least. Imagine None So Vile-era riffing weaved within the fabric of Devourment-like slams. It turns the otherwise play-it-safe sound of slam into an unhinged, straight-up maniacal affair. Album highlight definitely has to be the track "Retaliation", as all bets are off with this beast. It contains perhaps some of the slowest, sickest, catchiest slams of the year, but fucks your face with some of the most chaotic, whirlwind shit I've heard since last year's stellar Book Of Suffering EP from the revitalized Cryptopsy. Seek this out. Now.
