LECHEROUS GAZE - Zeta Reticuli Blues

Oakland, California quartet Lecherous Gaze delivers a mashup of ’60s psychedelia and ’70s bluesy hard rock decorated with punk rock and proto-metal influences on its sophomore release, Zeta Reticuli Blues. The band’s mammoth wall of sound is achieved by combining doomy, Sabbath riffs and spacey Hawkwind elements with the essence of English punk rock. “End Rising” starts things off with a bluesy, ’70s vibe reminiscent of Spirit, Steppenwolf and MC5. The band’s aforementioned punk influences shine through on “Uncle Dale” and “On The Skids.” “Night’s Edge” conjures up a glam-inspired Hanoi Rocks vibe. A spirited version of Big Joe Williams’ legendary 1935 hit “Baby Please Don't Go” is also featured. Although this song has been covered a thousand times over, it’s not a bad fit for Lecherous Gaze. Zeta Reticuli Blues delivers ten fuzzy ditties that capture the spirit of early rock ’n’ roll with authentic old-school production values.
