MINDPATROL - The Marble Fall

Luxembourg’s Mindpatrol is a progressive death metal band that packs a hell of a punch for a relatively unknown independent band from an almost relatively unknown small country tucked away in Western Europe. Their sophomore effort, The Marble Fall, is an adventurous concept album with a biblical foundation which serves as an alternative narrative to the Fall of Man, which is a biblical interpretation of a chapter of Genesis. The lyrical content is innovative and the narrative is well constructed, as vocalist Luc François is an accomplished journalist and is well-versed in the written word. However, François’s excruciating howls, guttural growls and shrill shrieks are an acquired taste. The 12 expansive tracks possess slight similarities to The Meads Of Asphodel or Dan Swano’s Edge Of Sanity Crimson album with a touch of Sabbat’s pagan doominess.
CD-opener, “Genesis”, is a good introduction to the album which consists of lyrics questioning man’s existence. The harmonized doom/goth guitar leads brilliantly propel the instrumentation and serves as a guide to the rest of the track’s melodic structures. Not to mention, the orchestral arrangements add a nice touch and enhances the dark atmosphere. The Marble Fall is very weighty, consisting of 12 tracks clocking in at over an hour in duration. The only gripes about The Marble Fall would be the aforementioned vocals and the length of the album. However, with’s its creative song constructions, innovative approach and articulate melodies, The Marble Fall is worth checking out!
