MÖRSER - V

Oh man, I didn't even realize this German grindcore band was still around, but here they are, totally crushing and killing once again. As always, these guys have a huge, massive production sound, perfect for their huge, massive grind/punk-ed out near-death metal. It's near death because it also has a (near-)hardcore urgency to it, and a wild energy that most death metal bands could stand to implement in their sound. Mörser just always occupy this brilliant middle ground between grindcore (indeed, there is blasting here, but it's not constant), death metal (it's heavy, but it's not oppressive), and hardcore (it's not really hardcore). They just steamroll ahead, always on some micro-indie (why?) when this should be at the top of the page on Relapse's latest ad, this band just way neglected by a community of longhairs who would undoubtedly bow at the sonic destruction offered herein, if they only knew about it. I mean, a song like "Absorbing," forget about it: it's the best grinding song you'll hear all year. This is great stuff, delivered with a huge, comforting production sound that just wraps me up in all the crushing goodness I expect from a killer grind album.
