NIGHTMARE WORLD – In The Fullness Of Time

This is the debut album from these English power/progressive metallers, supported by Threshold guitarist Pete Morten on vocals. Morten possess great vibrato and control; his contribution to the record makes this record pop. You know what you’re going to get with an album like this, some straight-ahead rockers, a ballad or two, and maybe a something a little off-the-wall. The funny aspect of this record is the strongest tracks are tacked onto the end of this offering.

“Damage Report” is tremendous. It has this post-apocalyptic vibe and is even supported by synths and is fit for a ‘80s John Carpenter movie. The closer, “Euphoria”, reminds of Keepers era Helloween with a happy, jumping riff and definitely gives off a “euphoric” feeling. On the flip side of the coin, “Burden Of Proof” has that four-note type riff you’ve probably heard a thousand times and comes off as a bit lazy and the downtrodden ballad “The Ever Becoming” seems a bit out of place and slows down the momentum of the album. Be that as it may, this is a good debut album from these Englishmen, and any traditional/progressive metal fans should find enjoyment in this.
