NIHILO MACHINA - The Last Messiah

Despite being unsigned, New Brunswick's Nihilo Machina sounds like its already three records in on debut The Last Messiah, this band having written an impressive introduction. Much like Woods Of Ypres circa its unsigned days in Windsor, Ontario in 2002, Nihilo Machine plays with the maturity and conviction of far more established groups, The Last Messiah weeping sorrowful but also potently articulating symphonic black metal that is paradoxically raw, very much in line with Emperor's first two albums.

Combining that frigidness with abundant melody that's reminiscent of Québec's underrated Blinded By Faith, Nihilo Machina has written a record that is engaging, highly listenable and memorable, this band clearly understanding what brings listeners back to an album in an era of unlimited access to all of music.
