PALACE - Master Of The Universe

Once upon a time, Cali was the epicenter of high pitched vocal, saccharine lovesick AOR/hard rock, before and after the hairband power ballad explosion. Like so many American industries, that too has moved overseas, as this debut from heretofore unknown Palace demonstrates so vividly.

The perfect ‘80s film soundtrack, the eleven upbeat tunes, predominately reliant on keyboards and Night Ranger pop, would have been all over FM radio/MTV 35 years ago, but then I doubt any of the band members were even alive, back then. While more guitar, even on the sappy, John Waite-ish “Part Of Me” ballad, than most of today's radio, still makes The Final Countdown sound like Reign In Blood! Not of interest to most BraveWords fans, but one for the old-timers (ladies?) who feel like there hasn't been any new bands worth investigating since Headbangers' Ball went off the air.
