ReverbNation Pick - SUMMONED TIDE

Summoned Tide formed in 2004 in the lands of Västerbotten, Sweden, playing a blend of power/progressive metal, or as they have dubbed, “new season epic metal.” These guys (and one gal, bassist Jennifer Sikström) have released two full-length albums with 2010’s If We Fall We Rise and 2012’s The Bringer Of The Tide. Singer Rickard Thelin definitely conjures up reminders of Michael Kiske Geoff Tate, Andre Matos, and Mike Patton while also dropping a few growls here and there and it is no accident that there are influences of Iron Maiden, Helloween, Crimson Glory, Angra and some Hammerfall. While their sound hearkens back to the past; the songs hold a modern production and sound. The tracks presented by Summoned Tide are full of vivacious leads and melodies brought forth by Mikael Thelin and Rickard while Jimi Toivanen’s keyboards accent the guitars with overpowering them. Amongst the best crop of songs is “Father Isac” with joyful rhythms and an engaging chorus line and melody. One of their more progressive and long longs is “Dreams”, a 12 minute roller coaster ride with galloping riffs, a charismatic vocal performance, layered keyboards, with twists and turns that make it a great listen. It is hard to make a 12 minute stay interesting the whole way through, but Summoned Tide complete the task. With two independently released albums, these guys have yet to be given their due as they certainly have the chops and musical ability to turn some heads.
