SEPTAGON - Deadhead Syndicate

German thrashers Septagon do a decent enough job here on their debut, channeling a lot of mid-tier '80s thrashers with the vocal lines and general sense of no fun, as well as a handful of songs that go on for about twice as long as they should. But while wondering why the hell thrash bands always do that, you get memorable tunes like “Exit... Gunfire”, which is pure Anthrax worship, right down to the Belladonnian vocal lines (really, much of the album is classic Anthrax homage). And it works, the song getting the adrenaline pumping and the feet tapping like good thrash should.

There is some cool guitar shredding to be found throughout this album too, and while it can't save Septagon from the obvious fact that they're just one in a million and are going to have to pull something big out next time in order to stand apart, hey, this is a fun album, and you could spend 40 minutes of your life in many worse ways than to throw this on and toss back a beer or two while re-alphabetizing those old LPs that have become a mess over the years. But the replay value is minimal, even though Septagon is clearly trying very hard. Plus, I've never heard a band who aren't called Anthrax sound this much like Anthrax, which is kinda novel.
