SIX FEET UNDER - Double Dead

Culled from a show in Minneapolis, on the True Carnage tour, the 14 song, hour long set is augmented by snippets of activities surrounding each tour stop, including soundcheck, signing sessions and interactions with the fans. In the case of SFU, that includes the daily marijuana ritual as well. The club show was shot with three or four cameras, with hands frequently thrust into the frame, and includes unwanted stage divers. The lighting is either multicoloured or near darkness. After each pair of live songs, there is a pre-recorded bit, or brief interview. Unfortunately, many of the attempts at humour fall flat. I doubt there was much discussion or planning involved, as the whole project reeks of a couple of fans having shown up early, asking if the band minded being filmed. From that point, everyone seems to have just improvised the filler material, including a simulated murder and Chris Barnes' swipe at his replacement in Cannibal Corpse. The extras include a five song live CD, none of which are reprised from the DVD show. In fact, all but 'Hacked To Pieces' were recorded in Seattle. A mock interview, where Barnes is possessed by a female spirit, offers nothing. Since there are precious few promo photos of the band, the photo gallery is mostly the album covers. They have been animated, in a style akin to the Heavy Metal cartoon movie. Both the gallery and discography feature musical accompaniment, different songs each. As more bands enter the home video market, they'll have to offer the casual fan more for their money.
