SOLIUM FATALIS - The Undying Season

It's about two-thirds of the way through "Salient", The Undying Season's opening track, that you realise that, yes, Flo Mounier (Cryptopsy) is really patrolling the drumkit here, as Mounier rolls into one of his unmistakably, flesh-made-blasphemy blasts. And that's the story within the story for Solium Fatalis, this New Hampshire band led by guitar player Jim Gregory collaborating with Mounier and Cryptopsy bass player Olivier Pinard to create torrential rains that culminate to grand effect.

The Undying Season is a death metal record that observes boundaries but also celebrates the act of absolving them of their confines, this collective seamlessly visiting the ritual sites of melodic death, extreme thrash, and even Melechesh, Solium Fatalis interested in executing well-written and effective material in engaging and unique ways. Perfectionist tendencies, including that bloody beautiful production, are abound, and one very much senses this is a record made by ambitious individuals looking to make an impact instead of just another piece of circular plastic.
