STARGAZERY - Stars Aligned

Stargazery, with the “y” tacked on the end to distinguish themselves from the four Stargazers that are floating in the metal realm, are back with their second album filled with power metaly rhymes in Stars Aligned. As you can tell, these guys are a bit spaced out with “stars” in their titles. Stars Aligned gets things right with good use of the keyboards. These are not overused and are a simply a good complement to the music and rhythm section. “Painted Into A Corner” features ear tickling use of the ivories and serves as an example of excelled keyboard use. Vocalist Jari Tiura shines on Stars Aligned as he sings with much bravado (“Absolution”) and character (“Dark Lady”). The true highlight is “Warrior’s Inn”, which has exceptional songwriting and has an adventurous feel to it with a wonderful melodic rocking section in the middle. Unfortunately, the stars did not align fully for a truly great record as the album lags in the meat of the album with songs more in the hard rock category as Stargazery seemed to bookend the cosmic lights with their best tracks. Stars Aligned is definitely worth a listen and some tracks deserve repeated listens, but as a whole this album could have used more “oomph” so to speak.
