SWEDENBORG RAUM - In Between

Intriguing five song EP from trio out of Leipzig, Germany. While the Facebook page describes them as psychedelic progressive rock, the music really resides somewhere between jazzy, space jams and vintage ‘70s Krautrock, like Tangerine Dream, Amon Düül II and/or Kraftwerk. Three of the songs eclipse nine minutes and "From Life" is the runt of the litter at 6:04! Rarely heavy, jangly, almost acoustic, guitars atop an almost spoken word delivery, the three-piece format putting the drums in the frontline.

The opening, title track utilizes hand drumming amongst its reverberating twist on Eastern rhythms. "Heaven And Hell" is hypnotic, while "The Unknown" utilizes plenty of cowbell. Throughout the disc, occasional electrified spurts of proggy "stoner" rock interrupt and then there's the wah wah pedal soloing, especially on the vast, instrumental passages. The highly recommended, seven minute "Into Death" finale, is completely voice-less, eerily moseying along, until, out of nowhere, a short, jazz guitar break. Something different, but surprisingly intriguing. Investigate, if you dare.
