SYMBOL SIX/RIKK AGNEW - Split And Stitched
August 21, 2015, 8 years ago
(Jailhouse)
Quick and short and dirty split of punk rock here, Rikk Agnew kicking things off with the one-minute "Cosmetic Plague", a frantic rager that ain't heavy as in metal but is heavy as in aggressive and speedy, but not without a bit of melody and hookiness to it. Then it's done and, boom, here come Symbol Six's "Faith Machine", a more mid-paced punk tune that has just enough '80s new wave to its tones to make it almost sound like something you might hear on the radio... a long time ago, on a particularly edgy station.
You get one more from each and it's over, the split actually showcasing a couple different styles of punk quite well, although you're left with the feeling that this is pretty disposable stuff, a few fun punk tunes ready to be forgotten, although it does the job in providing a quick taste of what both bands are capable of, which ain't half bad in both cases.
