TERRORIZER - Hordes Of Zombies

I don’t know, man, how does a grind/death fan objectively review a new TERRORIZER album in 2012? The band puts out one total classic album (World Downfall), like, a hundred years ago, then reunites for a good but kinda forgotten album (Darker Days Ahead), has a member die, then releases another album… it’s just too much to take. The bad news is this: if we’re being totally honest, this could be one of any number of grinding death albums released in the past decade by any number of forgotten grinding death bands. The good news is this: there’s tons of great riffing, solid drumming, and overall fun blasting mayhem to be found here. The spirit of no-nonsense old-school grind and death clearly lives on in Terrorizer, and the band harness that feeling here more than on their last album, which, to split hairs, was a bit more death metal and crust punk. I’m not sold on the stiff production, but apart from that, there’s not much to complain about on this sturdy, aggressive album. So it’s a bit of a crusher, and a headscratcher, that Hordes Of Zombies really doesn’t stand out over many of today’s grinders. Yet, it gets an 8.0, because strip away the context and the expectations, and this is great stuff.
