TETOLA93 - Tetola93

Tetola93 are a now-defunct Japanese chaotic hardcore band that bring to mind early-to-mid-'90s underground hardcore in a big way; this is their final documentation, a full-length being released after the band broke up last year. And is it ever an earful, the sound immediately bringing to mind the emo-violence (sorry) bands of yore, names like Combatwoundedveteran or Palatka suddenly entering my brain for the first time in a decade, the total headache of a sound being unleashed here combining chaotic hardcore, ill-advised melodic singing, and disharmonic anti-melodies crashing and bashing all over the place. It's impossible to find something to hang on to, which was always the appeal of bands like this. Ultimately, this stuff works best when you're watching dudes roll around on basement floors having temper tantrums into microphones, but as far as recorded documentations of these emotional outpourings go, this is a good one ('End Of The Scorching Heat' is the best homage to this sound I've come across in the new millenium). Kinda happy to hear Tetola93 broke up, though; if bands keep playing this kind of music as they get older, something's wrong.
