THE DAMNED THINGS - Ironiclast

Anthrax guitarists Scott Ian and Rob Caggiano (who also plays bass on the album) have teamed up with Every Time I Die vocalist Keith Buckley and Fall Out Boy guitarist and drummer Joe Trohman and Andy Hurley in The Damned Things. Their debut disc, Ironiclast, is an incredibly infectious riff-oriented affair, complete with hook-laden choruses that will have you singing along after only the first listen. Reference points include Alabama Thunderpussy on ‘Handbook For The Recently Deceased’ and super fantastic first single ‘We’ve Got A Situation Here’, as well as Foo Fighters on ‘A Great Reckoning’ and ‘Little Darling’. From there, elements of Queens Of The Stone Age and Kyuss are present in ‘Black Heart’ and ‘Graverobber’. Modern, yet melodic, and at the same time anthemic classic rock with a touch of the southern blues beaming brighter than the Bat-Signal, The Damned Things light up the night sky with their own invigorating call to arms. Hearing such refreshing new music from seasoned veterans is so much more than a welcome treat; it restores the faith. If ‘Bad Blood’ doesn’t excite you, check your pulse as you just might be dead!
