THE GREAT GODDAMN - Bangers & Hash

Nice to see a bit of a noise-rock insurgence out there, bands like Karp being namedropped in bios as if it ain't no thing, reminders of forgotten Big Business CDs currently serving time as unfortunate silverfish nests in the closet, Seattle's The Great Goddamn being the latest band bringing back the sound, although their take is less Unsane and more Rye Coalition, a fun, snotty punk vibe permeating through it all.

Dig that noisy production, bass loud and proud (as it should be for this kind of thing), the excellent closer "800 Lb. Gorilla" summing up everything this band does best: a lurching groove that is heavy but never cliche or pandering, a sense of playfulness that doesn't make you roll your eyes, and a punk vibe that is totally refreshing and keeps things energetic. These guys would be an awesome upset victory opening up for a metal band that would appear to be sonically heavier but would seem like mashed potatoes after The Great Goddamn tore through things.
