THE PETE FLESH DEATHTRIP - Svartnad

We reviewed the debut from the one-man band The Pete Flesh Deathtrip (note: now with a drummer, so, two-man band) back in July of 2013, and as much as I expressed my difficulty in warming up to solo projects back then (which is still the case), I admitted it was good stuff, death metal that was raw but sophisticated, with just enough black in there to keep things lively. On his second album, Flesh has only gotten more regal (see the very powerful second track “Burial Shore”), more adept at the Floridian DM stomp (“Melting The Frost From Your Eyes”), and more convincing with the cold black sounds (“The Winter Of The Wolves”).
Flesh, who used to be in Maze Of Torment, certainly knows what he's doing, as evidenced by the great songwriting of songs like the aforementioned “The Winter Of The Wolves”, which just might end up stuck in the listener's head after they have stopped listening to the album, which says a lot. And the same can be said for the title track, which closes the album off with an impressive, militant, repetitive black/death sound. And, sure, it's (almost) a one-man project, but this has just as much chemistry and feel as most bands do, and that's only gotten better since his first album, as has everything else on display here.
