THE VINTAGE CARAVAN - Arrival

Odd choice of title, for your second international release, but the young Icelandic trio doesn't do what's expected. Barely out of their teens The vintage Caravan opt for '70s rock sounds, with a leaning towards the psychedelic/progressive blues, especially the guitar of wiz kid/ founder /singer, Óskar Logi Ágústsson. Fuzzy, lo-fi production only adds to the old school vibe. There's even a hint of Stevie Ray Vaughn/Double Trouble in "Monolith" and before switching to a whack-whack bass shuffle, :Eclipsed" recalls the early Blue Oyster Cult albums.

Feedback, flangers, distortion and bell bottoms = Vintage Caravan. Stompers like multi-voice chorus "Babylon", "Carousel" and pounding "Winter Queen" all feature spirited guitar work. The slow, meandering balladesque start to "Innerverse" recalls the likes of Pink Floyd, before heavying up and adding a smattering of Hammond organ, as it takes flight into instrumental territory. The Hammond makes a comeback on the closing "Five Months". Out of the amps of babes...
