TRAITOR - Delaware Destroyers

There are a bunch of bands called Traitor over at The Metal Archives, but as far as I can tell, none are this band, who here lay down four tracks of very raw old-school power/speed metal, with a touch of Teutonic thrash. And it's a fun ride, the tune "Traitor" summing it all up great, a thrashing attack that makes ya think of Exciter by way of, say, some second-tier German thrash band long forgotten on some cassette compilation long forgotten. The riffs are pretty deadly (see "Bastards (To The German Commander)"), the vocals are just kinda there (totally par for the course for this sort of metal), and the drumming is frantic, just this side of hysterical. Really, the band could probably stand to hop over into hysteria: if everything was pumped up a bit more this one would be a hilariously great metallic party. As is, it's good, solid, just sort of forgettable (the murky production ain't helping) and threatening to get old for a full length; 18 minutes is a good length for this kinda morning metal, stuff that pumps you up as you're trudging off to work, the cool riffs carrying us all through another day, or at least through to the AM coffee break.
