WORTHLESS - Grim Catharsis

Doing a quick online search for Worthless ain't yielding much in the way of rewards, but here's what I can gather: they're from Finland and this is their debut, which follows up a 2014 demo. Here's what I can gather from listening to this cool 40-minute disc: they like old-school Swedish death metal. So do I! So we're in business from the get-go, this band's early Entombed worship almost absurd in its blinders-on approach at points but... nah, that stuff's never absurd, always awesome, and Worthless deliver in a way that keeps them from being some sort of caricature or parody of the genre, the band instead laying down their death with an obvious passion and soul.
The old conundrum remains: is this a great album because it's a great album (it is great, or, at the very least, very good) or is it kinda dull because we've heard it many times before, via Entombed, Grave, Dismember, and about 200 other bands? I dunno, man; just turn it up, slam back a couple beers, and shove those questions up your over-thinking butt. This album is awesome.
