ZANDELLE - Perseverance

Get ready for some fist-pumping, Manowar inspired power metal; which makes sense since Zandelle is from New York just like their metal brothers. The tracks vary from riff stompers to up-tempo carnage that sometimes gather in the thrash territory. Vocalist George Tsalikis deserves recognition conjuring images of Mike Adams having no problems letting out a scream or delivering commands to the metal faithful. Zandelle holds that steel metal sound with sharp guitars and pounding drums with even neat little bass play interspersed throughout the album.

“Shadow Slaves” is a definite highlight featuring a mammoth riff that develops into an outright thrash break and keyboard soloing. “Midnight Reign” also nets attention for those fast tempos and pulsating solos between the keys and guitar. Sitting at 11 tracks and a runtime of just under an hour, Perseverance could have used a little trimming starting with the tepid ballad “Innocence Lost” and unfortunately the closer “Revengeance (From The Ashes)” falls short in its quest to be epic and emote that feeling of power and strength that it tries to inspire. Zandelle still proves to “persevere” though and this record should make those looking for Manowar or Accept style heavy metal will be pleased with this.
