ZOM - Flesh Assimilation

Wild blackdeath from Ireland is what's in store here, delivered with a smooch from the awesome Dark Descent Records, Zom immediately proving their mix of ugly-guy blackthrash and ugly-guy blackened-death (even some ugly-guy punk rock, in spirit) is one that will win over pretty girls worldwide. Add in some feedback-drenched horror and early-Celtic Frost worship (see intro to "Hordes Of The Cursed Realms"), and a smart 35-minute run time, and who isn't happy? Those who like music that brings to mind any imagery that isn't dread and anger, I suppose, but even in songs like "Gates To Beyond," there is joy in the classic Entombed tempos and the horrible vocals, the Warriorian riffs and the ragged blackthrash mania. And lovers of doom and sludge should go download "Conquest", a song that is well worth whatever minuscule cash amount is designated to it via online channels for its massive, mountain-moving slug crawl; it's followed up wonderfully with the blasting of "Illbeings Unspeak". I seriously can't get over this coming out of Ireland for some reason; it just doesn't seem to mesh, but who cares: after hearing this manic blaster of a debut, all sense and reason is beaten to a pulp anyway. The more tossed-off punk answer to a band like Dire Omen's pure guttural DM sludge, get 'em both to have all aspects of your bad mood covered.
