Recently reactivated Netherlands-based death metallers ASPHYX - consisting of Martin van Drunen (vocals), Wannes Gubbels (bass/vocals), Paul Baayens (guitar) and Bob Bagchus (drums) - announced earlier this week that they had completed recording for their forthcoming new studio album, Death...The Brutal Way at Sonic Assault Studio with their longtime engineer Frank Klein Douwel.

The album will be mixed and mastered by Dan Swanö (BLOODBATH, EDGE OF SANITY, etc.), who previously worked on mixing the debut album by HAIL OF BULLETS, the band featuring Asphyx vocalist Martin van Drunen and guitarist Paul.

Death...The Brutal Way promises to become the heaviest Asphyx album to date and is the first Asphyx album featuring the titanic roar of Martin Van Drunen since 1992’s classic The Last One On Earth.

Here is the band’s comment on the new album’s material: “Cliché or not: This truly IS the heaviest Asphyx album of all. This could easily be THE real follow up for The Last One On Earth. The songs are as always catchy, brutal and straight forward. The slower parts have become even more slow and heavier than ever before. This is doom/death metal in the real Asphyx spirit. This will grind everything to its grave! Just listen to songs as 'Asphyx II (They Died As They Marched)', 'Eisenbahnmörser' or the epic 'Cape Horn'... This is death metal as we, Asphyx, like it best. Old school to the bone!”

The album will include songs like 'Death...The Brutal Way', 'Cape Horn', 'Riflegun Redeemer', 'Eisenbahnmörser', 'Scorbutics', 'Asphyx II (They Died As They Marched)' and is expected to surface around summer via Century Media Records.

A demo version of the track 'Death...The Brutal Way' (which appeared on last year’s sold-out 7” released via Iron Pegasus) can be heard at the band’s official MySpace page.

After the stunning success of their reunion shows in 2007 and the 7” EP release in 2008, in 2009 Asphyx are back as vicious and powerful as ever before and remain a prime example for the perseverance and indestructible impact of real death metal!
