Three weeks ago former BACHMAN-TURNER OVERDRIVE guitarist Tim Bachman had a heart attack in the middle of the night. The 56-year-old wound up having quadruple bypass surgery, and will take months to recover. So his big brother Randy has decided to throw a benefit show for him.

It happens this Wednesday, May 14 at MSA Arena in Abbotsford, where Tim lives and works as a realtor. Randy Bachman will be appearing with his band, and donating a couple of guitars he played when he was with THE GUESS WHO for a silent auction. Tim's son Paxton will be the opening act.

Tim was already recovering from shoulder surgery when he had the heart attack, which means he was in fairly rough shape when Randy went to visit him in the hospital.

"So besides his shoulder hurting -- and you can't pull yourself up in bed because your right arm has no strength or power -- he's got his chest ripped open," says Randy Bachman.

"He was saying 'Oh Randy, the pain -- it hurts everywhere.' And I said 'Isn't it great to be alive and feel the pain?' He kind of chuckled and said 'Yeah.'" Heart problems seem to run in the Bachman family. Another brother, Gary, recently had triple bypass surgery back in Winnipeg. Randy then went through a series of tests to make sure his heart was okay. Then he had shoulder surgery to correct three ripped tendons that he injured weight-lifting several years ago.
