Greece's Rockpages Web Magazine recently conducted an interview with legendary producer Tom Allom (JUDAS PRIEST, BLACK SABBATH) who produced DEF LEPPARD’s 1980 debut On Through The Night. In the interview Allom Talks about recording the album and Def Leppard back in 1980. Excerpts from the interview are below:

Rockpages.gr: What do you remember from those recording sessions? Was it hard to work with an inexperienced recording-wise band or was the band tight and easy going to work with?

Tom Allom: “The band was very tight and it was easy to get good performances out of them. They had no fear of the studio and because I was quite a bit older than them (they were very young at the time) I think they looked on me as a kind of father figure! It was them that nicknamed me The Colonel.”

Rockpages.gr: Do you remember anything, in particular, from the studio? Any unknown story or funny incident?

Tom Allom: “We worked very hard in the studio and there wasn't much time or budget for messing around. We were working at RINGO's place in Ascot - the huge house he bought from JOHN LENNON and where the ‘Imagine’ video was made. There were 80 acres of grounds - a really huge Park. The album was made either side of Christmas and Rick Allen came back in the New Year with two motor bikes. It had snowed quite heavily and he and the engineer Louis Austin raced around Ringo's grounds every night in the dark to our considerable amusement - I don't suppose Ringo was very amused when he saw the state of his lawns after the snow melted!”
