Station Fire Memorial Efforts On Hold

According to WPRI.com, as the 8th anniversary of the Station Nightclub fire approaches, efforts to establish a permanent memorial on the site remain at a standstill.

A memorial service is scheduled to take place Sunday where the nightclub once stood on Cowesset Avenue. 100 people were killed in the 2003 fire, which was started by pyrotechnics during a performance by the rock band GREAT WHITE.

Meanwhile, efforts to transform the site into a permanent memorial have hit a roadblock. Dave Kane, who lost his son in the fire, said the realty company which owns the land has gone back on its pledge to donate it to the Station Fire Memorial Foundation.
