NOVEMBERS DOOM - The Knowing

You would expect that one of the most promising prospects in the doom/gothic metal genre would hail from European soil, but Chicago's Novembers Doom are many miles ahead of the game than Europeans who try to be the next Anathema/Paradise Lost/My Dying Bride, or whatever the flavour of the month is this week. Novembers Doom have always been about creating doom metal of a high class, and surely one cannot go without mentioning such references as early Anathema/My Dying Bride. Surpassing their previous effort, The Knowing sees the quintet exploring and expanding, their sound, with more of an epic, magical, melodious feel. The track 'In Memories Past' took me a little by surprise; the band's new rock feel is quite stirring, but overall once again Novembers Doom have created something which resonates pure class. Sear me indeed...
