RECKLESS LOVE - InVader

These Finnish glamsters are back with their fourth album, but also very key, as this is their first to receive an official North American release. The black and white cover is a stark contrast to the colorful expressions found on the album’s ten tracks (plus one bonus). The band certainly takes chances on their first “visit” to these shores, and some fans are either going to accept it or be very disappointed.

Make no mistake, these guys are still here to rock like with the infectious “Hands” and the fun riffing of “Let’s Get Cracking (THWP)” with its drunken sing-along part to the end. Circumstances become tricky though with the pop, Britney Spears like “Monster” and the rapping of “Pretty Boy Swagger”. It’s a bit ironic when Olli says, “I’m a rocker not a rapper, walking down the strip with my pretty boy swagger” when he is indeed rapping it, but maybe that’s just part of the joke. Then there is the summertime smoothness of “Scandinavian Girls” and the only seriously weak track, the techno/‘80s synth sound of “Child Of The Sun”. While these sounds are all over the map, they retain the fun, positive-natured attitude of Reckless Love and that’s why a press release called them “merry metallers.” On the flip side, there is nothing wrong with the perfect AOR-type tune “Destiny” and opener “We Are The Weekend”, which is the perfect soundtrack for that Friday night out. That’s what so perfect about a band like Reckless Love, they know exactly what they are about and make no bones about it. Have fun, have a good time with the ladies, and do it with a drink in your hand. Some of these newer sounds on InVader are questionable, but I absolutely commend a band for not resting on their laurels and trying something new.
