You’d never guess it from the pure American thrash/groove metal found all over their second album, Last Man Standing, but LEGACY OF DISORDER call New Zealand home. Kinda cool to have them taking such a down south American sound over to their homeland and making it their own, which they do on this disc. By the time track three, ‘March To Death’, rolls around, with its PANTERA and METALLICA homage wrapped up with a good amount of the band’s own personality, it’s clear that this band is on to something. (And let’s be clear: most bands who sound like Pantera are not on to something.)

“Wow… people are really getting into this track,” says guitarist Rana Freilich about ‘March’. “Like, nearly every interview they ask the same question regarding 'March To Death'. I believe it is a great example of what Legacy Of Disorder is about.”

The band has had time to write standout tracks like that one, given that their self-titled debut came out back in 2008. According to Freilich, the long wait between releases was simply a matter of the band being busy.

“After our debut album, we toured our own country over and over, made some video clips, wrote music and kept real busy,” he says. “If anything, maybe the delay was a good thing; we wanted our new album to be just as we wanted it, so we didn't push or rush it and we are getting a great response about it. So maybe good things sometimes take time.”

For Last Man Standing, the band again worked with producer Sterling Winfield (PANTERA, DAMAGEPLAN, HELLYEAH). It comes through loud and clear in the disc’s excellent sound, a sound that recalls Pantera at their punchiest. Freilich says that working with Winfield was great, and working with him for a second time (he produced their debut) worked wonders.

“It was even better doing Last Man Standing than our debut,” he says. “We are all very much on the same page now and it just flows in the recording studio. We had a good vibe happening throughout the whole recording process.”

The band recently completed their most unusual tour, out with GWAR, MUNICIPAL WASTE and GHOUL. And the high profile gigs don’t end here, there’s more support-slot touring positions lined up for big-name metal bands, pretty cool considering that where Legacy Of Disorder are coming from, metal isn’t as mainstream as it is in North America, by Freilich’s estimation.

“Well, straight after the Gwar tour finishes, we have another twenty shows with THE BROWNING, THE DEVASTATED, SHADOWS FALL and FEAR FACTORY,” he says. “On both tours combined we do 53 shows in 62 days and lots of travelling. After that, I'm not sure, but something will happen, alright.”
