Much has been made of the difference between metal in North America and Europe. The annual Heavy Montreal two-day, outdoor festival seeks to bridge that gap, not only by importing key players from overseas, but providing a multi-stage experience modeled on the biggest/best events within the genre. Aug 6th found a widely varying slate of artists, plying their talents, including Pop Evil, Dillinger Escape Plan, Fear Factory, Kataklysm, Carcass, Zakk Wylde, Sebastain Bach, full pyro set from Sabaton, Mastodon and the multi-media enhanced Nightwish experience.
