Billed as a Nuclear Blast artist introductory day (just two stages open and the T-stage dominated by Nukie bands), Wednesday proved North America can deliver the goods globally, as if there was any doubt. Early in the day, there was the diversified sounds of Night Flight Orchestra. Soilwork singer Bjorn "Speed" Strid dropped his nickname, in favor of a purple leisure suit, beret and 70s Chicago meets Santana at Studio 54 sound. Danceable groove, in leftover Miami Vice attire (even white suited bassist Sharlee D'Angelo). Maurizo Iacono (Kataklysm) had the crowd in his hand. When he said jump, circle pit, kill your neighbor, they obliged! Swedish traditional metallers RAM, in studded leather, showcased a Judas Priest inspired career repertoire, as Paradise Lost sampled their master works, including the recently reissued, "controversial" Nineties material. A more in-depth recap of the entire festival will be posted online, soon. IN the meantime, here's some images of what happened, Day 1
