METALLICA Frontman James Hetfield On New Album - "As Soon As We Got Into That Old Mindset, It Started To Feel Alive"

METALLICA frontman James Hetfield spoke to here recently about a number of topics including the band's new album, Death Magnetic. An excerpt from the chat follows:
Q: So why the return to the almighty riff on the new album?
A: "It was a conscious thing but there was also a lot of the subconscious thing going on. As soon as we got into that old mindset, it started to feel alive. It started to feel like a rebirth and like a band starting out.
We've got (bassist) Rob (Trujillo) recording with the band now, we've got all four of us recording together. We were at HQ, the clubhouse (near San Francisco), hanging out -- it felt more like the old days.
After the Monster movie and St. Anger and all that, we learned a lot about ourselves and how grateful we are to be in this band and in this business. It's a rebirth, man. It truly is."
