BraveWords.com has received the following press release:

GUNS N' ROSES’ Chinese Democracy (Black Frog/Geffen Records/Universal Music Canada), one of the most highly anticipated albums in rock history, hit stores on Sunday, November 23 and today debuted atop the Nielsen SoundScan Album Chart in Canada, selling more than 70,000 in its first week of sale.

The release of Chinese Democracy marks the first album of new Guns N’ Roses material since 1991’s simultaneous release of Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II.

Produced by Axl Rose and Caram Costanzo, Chinese Democracy is comprised of 14 songs, including the title track first single which is currently Top 5 at Canadian Rock Radio. The second single, 'Better' is on Canadian airwaves now.

Two of the recordings from Chinese Democracy have been recently released - 'Shackler’s Revenge' debuted September 14 in the Rock Band 2 videogame and 'If The World' debuted October 11 in the film Body Of Lies.

Seventeen years ago, the two previous original albums from one of rock’s most intense and compelling bands, Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II, were issued simultaneously, a first for any contemporary artist. Debuting #2 and #1, respectively, they featured four hits with 'November Rain', 'Don’t Cry' and the previously released “You Could Be Mine” from the film Terminator II: Judgment Day, plus 'Live And Let Die'. Each album is certified Diamond in Canada, having sold more than one million copies apiece.

The band’s 1987 full-length debut, Appetite For Destruction, has sold more than 28 million copies worldwide and 1.5 million in Canada, and is among the biggest-selling albums in history. The #1 album included hits 'Welcome To The Jungle', 'Sweet Child o’ Mine' and 'Paradise City'. 1988’s G N’ R Lies yielded the hit single 'Patience' and sold over 200,000 copies in Canada. After the Use Your Illusion duo, 1994’s The Spaghetti Incident? cover album sold more than 300,000 in Canada.

In 1999, a live album earned Platinum status and in 2004, the band’s only Greatest Hits collection was certified 5x Platinum, selling more than 500,000 copies in Canada. Overall, Guns N’ Roses has sold more than 90 million records worldwide and more than 4 million in Canada.

With a frenzied energy, Guns N’ Roses arrived on the music scene in the mid-‘80s and rock was never the same.
