Filmmaker.co.za is reporting:

This December, audiences will go ga-ga over Ster-Kinekor Theatres’ one-night-only screenings of the QUEEN + PAUL RODGERS 3D mega-concert Let the Cosmos Rock.

This concert spectacular, featuring a selection of Queen’s greatest hits in ‘larger-than-live’ 3D format, will be screened exclusively at five Ster-Kinekor Classic cinemas at 8pm on Friday, 12 December 2008. The sites are Sandton City and The Zone in Johannesburg, Brooklyn Mall in Pretoria, Gateway in Durban and Cavendish in Cape Town.

Tying in with World Aids Day on 1 December, Let the Cosmos Rock was a free concert held in Kharkov’s historic Freedom Square in the Ukraine on 12 September 2008, in support of Ukraine’s anti-Aids campaign.

Of course, adding extra poignancy to the gig is the fact that charismatic Queen lead singer Freddie Mercury died of Aids in 1991, and the band has established its own HIV/Aids charity in his memory, the Mercury Phoenix Trust. Queen + Paul Rodgers have also been strong supporters of Nelson Mandela’s 46664 Aids campaign, which they have supported with three concert performances, most recently Madiba’s 90th birthday celebration in London’s Hyde Park.

The massive outdoor event in Kharkov attracted some 350,000 fans, so the crowd atmosphere in the high-definition, surround-sound 3D movie is bound to be sensational – similar to the U2 3D spectacular that rocked our screens earlier this year.

Expect to become immersed in a dazzling, all-encompassing cinematic experience that will catapult you into the thick of the massive crowd, complete with all the excitement of a live concert – while comfortably ensconced in your cinema seat.

This cinema version of the live concert is directed by the acclaimed David Mallett (who has directed many of Queen’s music videos over the years). In the film, Brian May and Roger Taylor of Queen, assisted by Paul Rodgers on vocals, deliver an electrifying selection of classic hits in addition to material from their new studio album, The Cosmos Rocks.
