Former Ozzfest Chef To Helm Philly's El Camino Real

This week the long-awaited Tex-Mex border bar and restaurant El Camino Real is expected to open at 1040 North 2nd Street in Philly’s hip Northern Liberties neighborhood.

The new spot, which is the second venture from restaurant designer-turned-restaurateur Owen Kamihira, who’s popular Spanish tapas bar Bar Ferdinand has served as the neighborhood’s anchor for several years, will feature a design scheme, menu and beverage program inspired by El Paso, Texas and Juarez, Mexico.

Heading up the kitchen is Chef Jennifer Zavala, a petite, heavily tattooed and self described “culinary gypsy,” who is perhaps the country’s hardest rockin’ chef and the culinary ace who was responsible for keeping the talent fed while traveling with Ozzfest.
