Report: Rick Rubin May Get The Boot?
January 14, 2009, 15 years ago
According to Rapbasement.com, Rick Rubin may lose his spot as co-head-honcho at Columbia Records. Fox News, via Roger Friedman, is reporting that executives at Sony are not happy with Rubins moves, including producing albums for record companies. Rubin recently produced METALLICA's new album Death Magnetic. The suits at Sony also reportedly don't like that Rick moved his office to a expensive spot in Beverly Hills (which allegedly he doesn't even use). The Fox news report said the label plans to "offload him to a side label deal, and remove him from the main company."
Rick Rubin is best known for co-founding Def Jam Records with Russell Simmons - in metal circles he's helped establish the careers of SLAYER, THE BLACK CROWES, MASTERS OF REALITY and TROUBLE among others.
