CORMORANT To Play HAMMERS OF MISFORTUNE Album Release Show
February 2, 2009, 15 years ago
San Francisco, California-based progressive black metal act CORMORANT have been invited to play HAMMERS OF MISFORTUNE's double LP release show, and will be opening for the doom metal giants with fellow Californians SAVIOURS. The show is set to go off on February 6, 2009 in a bona fide haunted house, the Brookdale Lodge in Brookdale, CA (seriously – check it out here) that lies hidden in the Santa Cruz mountains.
This will also be Cormorant's first gig after going into the studio for their upcoming full-length album, Metazoa, which they've been hard at work recording with Billy Anderson (NEUROSIS, MELVINS, SLEEP, PRIMORDIAL). Mixed by Anderson and mastered by Justin Weis (HAMMERS OF MISFORTUNE, LUDICRA, SLOUGH FEG), Metazoa features ten tracks of forward-thinking, multihued black metal that combines the folk-tinged atmospheres of Agalloch with straight-up heavy metal thunder, the expansiveness of post-rock, and the progressive blackness of latter-day Enslaved.
Metazoa will contain the following ten songs: 'Scavengers Feast', 'Uneasy Lies the Head', 'Salt of the Earth', 'Blood on the Cornfields', 'Hanging Gardens', 'The Crossing', 'Hole in the Sea', 'The Emigrant's Wake', 'Sky Burial', 'Voices of the Mountain'.
