ADRIFT Check In From DEICIDE Tour
February 16, 2009, 15 years ago
Tampa, Florida-based heavy rock act ADRIFT, in the midst of their first US tour in support of Century Media recording artists, Florida extreme metal forefathers DEICIDE, en route between Springfield, Virginia and Mokena, Illinois, have the following to say about the status and progress of their tour.
Drummer Kevin Astl states: “First of all, we’re having a blast on this tour. The crowds have been great, we know they’re out for the extreme stuff from Deicide and VITAL REMAINS, but they really seem to be digging the music we’re playing. Which of course is cool for us, because Adrift is, for all of us, first and foremost about our music. To get up in front of hundreds of people, packed houses every night is a very satisfying experience. The clubs have been very nice and accommodating as well.
The experience of traveling in a 15 person van with three bands (Deicide, ORDER OF ENNEAD, Adrift) can be trying at times, but we’re all making the best out of being in such close quarters. Glen (Benton, Deicide) is being a very gracious host, and he’s a total comedian to be around. Makes traveling all the time a hell of a lot easier. There’s been some good natured hazing, but that’s to be expected under the circumstances.
Overall, we feel we’re playing well, better each night, actually, and we’re enjoying the overall experience. Life on the road might not be as glamorous as it’s made out to be, unless you’re AEROSMITH or METALLICA or whatever, but for Adrift’s first tour it’s been pretty damn badass so far.
Extra special thanks to Glen, Steve, Ralph, and Jack of Deicide, the Order guys, and Tony and Vital Remains for being so accepting of us and making our tour experience as fun as it has been.
See you on the road!”
