CANNIBAL CORPSE - New Interview With Drummer Paul Mazurkiewicz Available

Death Metal legends CANNIBAL CORPSE recently released their new album Evisceration Plague. PyroMusic caught up with drummer Paul Mazurkiewicz to discuss the success of their new material and other topics. A few excerpts from the chat follow:
PyroMusic: The new album has debuted in the US Billboard Charts, which is the third time one of your albums has done so. Does it still surprise you guys when that kind of thing happens?
Paul Mazurkiewicz: "Yeah, I mean we're definitely very pleased and of course looking forward to seeing how our record is going to kind of sell in the first week or whatever, and it looks like it's done pretty good everywhere in the world. But the fact that we can break the Billboard Top 200 again and land at Number 66, when we're selling a little more than 9500 units in the United States, that's great for us. I mean, that's the biggest release we've ever had to date, and then the other chart numbers in Europe and Germany and Austria and a couple of other places, like Canada were really good, so that's great to see. We're really pleased."
PyroMusic: Do you think the success of the new album is in many ways down to the fact that Kill revitalized the band's career and you've built on that momentum?
Paul Mazurkiewicz: "Yeah, kind of I guess. I mean, Kill did such a great job with the fans and everybody seemed to really like it and we loved the CD as well. And that seemed to give us a little bit of a kick-start; a lot of things happened after that. We played some big festivals in Europe, we played a big tour of the United States, we got to come to Australia and a lot of different places that we haven't played in a long time. We really toured extensively for it. So it definitely was like a little bit of a stepping stone to this new one, that really Kill did give us, and I hope that is the trend and things continue that way, 'cause we really seem to be going in a really good direction these days."
PyroMusic: Kill was a real landmark album for the band- how well do you think Evisceration Plague stacks up against it?
Paul Mazurkiewicz: "I think it's a little bit better than Kill really in a couple of ways. The tightness of it is a little bit better on Evisceration. I think the guitar sound is the best we've ever had, so I'm really, really pleased with the production. A lot of it is real minute for the most part, because Kill was a great album and it was produced great and all the songs are good too. But I think just the precision is just a little better on Evisceration."
