STREAM OF PASSION vocalist Marcela Bovio has checked in with the following studio update:
"So finally it was my turn in front of the microphone, after waiting for so long to record these new songs I was more than ready to begin!I recorded all my vocal parts with Joost van den Broek at his little studio in Tilburg; a very cozy spot in a lovely house in the middle of the city center, every day I took a little walk from the train station to get there which felt incredibly relaxing. I would arrive in the morning, we would chat a little bit in the kitchen and have some tea, and then I would start vocalizing and getting ready to rock!
Joost has a few really cool things in his studio, including a Mac computer with an octa-core processor (capable of working with masses of audio files and plug-ins at a time), the best looking speaker stands in the world, and this lovely gadget called the Mic Thing, which is a panel you set up behind the vocal microphone. With it, even if the room wasn’t 100% sound proof we could record all the vocals without any problems. Shortly after the recordings I had to get me one of those...
We took our time and did two songs each day, which was great because I could totally sing my heart out and spend all the energy I had and then take it easy and rest my voice the rest of the day. We recorded everything at least three times for vocal doubling, panning, chorusy-backing-vocals effects and who knows what else. Joost is a great vocal producer, and helped me along to focus in the right feeling and approach for every song; I explored more different sides of my voice in these new songs, I’m really happy how everything turned out!
The last day we recorded some electric violin parts to support the string quartet recordings, which also went nice and smooth. When we were totally finished and officially ended the recording sessions we celebrated with two of my favorite things: chocolate cake and beer! No better way to wrap up the sessions, in my opinion.
So that’s it! The band is done recording and now the mixing and mastering work begins. It’s always exciting and fun to see everything come together and get a glimpse of what the final product will become. We’re all totally hyped with the way everything is going, it’s going to be awesome! Can’t wait to share it with you all!"
All the best,
Marcela
