BraveWords.com has received the following press release:
A series of special, one-time performances - including a reunion of the original AMBOY DUKES and a Motown 50th Anniversary Revue - will highlight this year's 18th annual Detroit Music Awards (DMA), taking place at 7pm on April 17th at the Fillmore Detroit.
The original Amboy Dukes lineup, which is receiving a Distinguished Achievement Award, will take the stage together for the first time in 30 years, recalling a mid- and late-60s run as leaders of the burgeoning Detroit music scene, including the hits 'Journey to the Center of the Mind' and 'Baby Please Don't Go'. The Motown 50th Anniversary Revue will feature many of the legendary label's stars who are still based in the Detroit area, paying tribute to the golden anniversary of the record company Berry Gordy, Jr., turned into The Sound of Young America from modest beginnings on West Grand Boulevard.
The event, which honors both established and up-and-coming talent and achievements in the fertile Detroit and southeast Michigan music scene, will also include: tributes to the late STOOGES guitarist Ron Asheton (featuring Scott Morgan & Powertrane and Hiawatha Bailey of the Cult Heroes) and to the late R&B; and jazz legend Lyman Woodard (featuring Woodard's longtime guitarist Ron English and Chris Codish on organ); Detroit rockers Bump with special guests Liz Larin, Barbara Payton and Janice Franco; rapper Mae Ray; and the teen bluegrass group CATS & THE FIDDLER.
Tickets for this year's DMAs are priced at $20 and details are available via DetroitMusicAwards.com and at the Fillmore Detroit box office.
